An Indian national, who was injured in a shooting incident, was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from a private hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar on Monday, under suspicion of being involved in smuggling activities.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sujan Barman, a resident of Battali village in Agartala, Tripura, India. He is the son of Mangal Barman.

According to BGB sources, Sujan was shot while attempting to illegally enter Bangladesh on Sunday evening, with the assistance of an active smuggling ring.

BGB intelligence had received information about Sujan's unauthorized entry, prompting an increase in surveillance and investigation. The authorities tracked him down to a hospital in Moghbazar, where he was receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed that after receiving initial treatment, Sujan was handed over to local police for further legal proceedings.

"Necessary legal actions are being taken in coordination with law enforcement agencies," he said.
