Satkhira mangoes hit markets from today

Juicy and delicious fruit mango of Satkhira has started appearing in the local markets from Monday (May 5).

The farmers of the district have started plucking different varieties of mangoes including Gopalbhog, Gobindobhog, Bombay and Gulab Khas, reports BSS.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mostaq Ahmed formally inaugurated the collection of mangoes by plucking mangoes from Billal Hossain's mango orchard in the Fingri area under Satkhira Sadar Upazila this morning.

At that time, Executive Magistrate of the Satkhira DC office Pronoy Biswas, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain, Additional Agriculture Officer Plabani Sarkar and other officials of district administration and Agriculture Extension Department were also present there.

Earlier, the District Administration fixed the date in a meeting related to mango harvesting, transportation, marketing and market monitoring held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Wednesday.

As per the decision taken in the meeting, local varieties like Gobindobhog and Gopalbhog have been fixed to harvest and market from today, followed by Himsagar from 20 May, Langra from 27 May, and Amrapali from 5 June.

Meanwhile, wholesalers have started collecting mangoes from different upazilas of the district since morning. Local farmers said that demand and price are both good in the market.

According to the sources of Satkhira Agricultural Extension Department, Satkhira mangoes have been exported abroad since 2016. Satkhira's delicious Himsagar and Amrapali mangoes are in high demand in various Asian countries.
