210 sued, including ‘pro-AL’ teachers, officials of Nazrul University
A case has been filed against approximately 210 individuals, including pro-Awami League teachers, officials, and former Chhatra League activists, for allegedly attacking students involved in the July-August movement at National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
The case was filed on Sunday (May 4) by Md Ashiqur Rahman, a former Chhatra Dal leader and first-batch student of the university’s Bengali department, at the Mymensingh Fast Track Court.
Mymensingh Senior Judicial (Fast Track) Magistrate Court Bench Assistant Md Azmat Ali confirmed the filing on Monday (May 5).
Following the submission, Judge Md Nasima Khatun took cognizance of the case and ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct an inquiry.
According to the case documents, the main accused is Zakibul Hasan Rony, former president of the university unit of Chhatra League and current assistant registrar. The case names 130 individuals and includes 70–80 unidentified persons.
The complaint alleges that on August 4, 2023, during preparations for the 'March to Dhaka' programme, protesting students were subjected to an organised attack with cocktails and gun. At least 12 students were injured, and a university bus along with several motorcycles was vandalized during the attack.
